German false friends that cost easy points
aktuell, bekommen, Gift, Gymnasium — English lookalikes that German does not mean, in exam texts and real emails.

If it looks like English, check it
aktuell = current / up to date. *Actually* is eigentlich or tatsächlich. bekommen = get / receive. *Become* is werden. These two pairs produce confident wrong answers because the brain is faster than the dictionary.
A short list worth owning
Gift is poison, not a present (das Geschenk). Gymnasium is a secondary school, not a sports hall (die Turnhalle, das Fitnessstudio). eventuell is possibly, not *eventually* (schließlich, irgendwann). sensibel is sensitive; *sensible* is closer to vernünftig.
spenden is to donate, not *spend* (ausgeben). weil is not *while* (während). also is *so / therefore*, not English *also* (auch).
Where they bite
Reading papers use them as distractors. Emails from well-meaning learners use aktuell for *actually* and sound oddly journalistic. Oral examiners will still understand you; the mark scheme might not forgive the reading item.
How to lock them
For each pair, write one German sentence that could only mean the German thing. Ich habe eine E-Mail bekommen. cannot mean you became an email. Then meet the pair as a blank with the English lookalike sitting in the wrong option on purpose.
